Kene Aningo
Born and raised in Nigeria, Kene’s family moved to the US when he was 9 years old. He spent his formative years traveling between the US and Nigeria, and developed a sense for the potential of cross-border commerce at this early age. He has since honed his expertise in consumer insights, marketing strategy, and innovation from working at some of the world’s top companies: FedEx, Meta, Instacart. Kene now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, working and building WeDey.
After living in the US for over 20 years and having traveled to dozens of countries, Kene found that it is almost impossible to find authentic African goods anywhere in the world. African entertainment (afrobeats, amapiano, movies, etc.) have made their way into homes around the world through Netflix, Spotify, and so on. But, African products are still hard to come by.
Kene realised this was a common problem, and represented a consistently overlooked opportunity. The opportunity to connect African people, products, stories, and experiences with the rest of the world. Kene made it his mission to help bridge the gaps between Africa and the rest of the world.
